ThAt Brookline Teen Outreach, we believe the way we talk about young people shapes the opportunities we create for them.

Too often, conversations about teenagers focus on what is going wrong — concerns about behavior, violence, safety, or the challenges facing young people today. Those concerns are real, and communities have an important responsibility to address them.

But they are not the whole story.

Every day at BTO, we see something different.

We see young people creating, learning, laughing, solving problems, building relationships, developing skills, and discovering what they are capable of becoming.

We see artists. Leaders. Problem-solvers. Employees. Neighbors. Community members.

We see possibility.

That belief is the foundation of our 2026 year-end giving campaign:

Invest in Pittsburgh’s Next Generation

Our goal is to raise $40,000 by December 31 to help sustain the free programs, resources, and opportunities BTO provides to young people across Pittsburgh.

Why This Matters

We believe community safety starts with connection and opportunity.

A safe community is not created only by responding when something goes wrong. It is also created by giving young people positive places to go, trusted adults to turn to, meaningful ways to spend their time, and opportunities to develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their lives.

Every afternoon, BTO provides that kind of space.

Young people can access free afterschool programming, mental health and counseling support, workforce readiness and life skills, violence prevention initiatives, creative and educational activities, leadership opportunities, and positive relationships with adults who know them and care about them.

Sometimes impact looks like a young person preparing for their first job interview.

Sometimes it looks like discovering a passion through art, cooking, or STEM.

Sometimes it means having someone to talk to when life feels overwhelming.

And sometimes it simply means knowing there is somewhere to go after school where you are welcomed by name.

Those opportunities matter.

Opportunity Changes Everything

We know that no single program can solve every challenge facing young people or our communities.

But consistent support, meaningful relationships, and access to opportunity can make a tremendous difference.

When young people feel connected, supported, and invested in, they have more opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, make positive choices, and envision a future for themselves.

And when young people thrive, our entire community benefits.

Stronger young people contribute to stronger families, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and communities.

That is why we see investing in youth not simply as charitable giving, but as an investment in Pittsburgh itself.

Join Us

This year, we are inviting our community to do more than make a donation.

We are inviting you to invest in Pittsburgh’s next generation.

Your gift can help ensure BTO remains a place where young people are welcomed, supported, challenged, encouraged, and empowered to discover who they are and who they can become.

Whether you make a one-time contribution or become a monthly BTO Champion, your support helps us continue showing up for young people — day after day, year after year.

The future starts with our youth.

Opportunity changes everything.

And building a stronger Pittsburgh starts with investing in young people today.
